TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Department of Empowerment, Child Protection and Population Control (PPAPP) of Jakarta this year plans to build six safe houses for child victims of violence in every city district. The safe houses will complement the two safe houses that are now run by the government.

"The budget is Rp5 billion," PPAPP head Tuty Kusumawati said yesterday, May 9.

Cases of violence against children in the capital are still high and always increase from year to year. The PPAPP claims to have made efforts to curb down cases of abuse against women and children, one way is by conducting parenting education and training routinely.

They have also formed the Jakarta Children's Forum, which is engaged in the protection of women and children, by establishing 12 complaint posts.

The KPAI deputy chair Rita Pranawati said that from January to April 2019 there were 18 cases of child violence in the household environment. In 10 of those cases, the abusers are the parents.
