Airfare Ceiling Price to be Revised, Ministry Assures

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi ensured that he will revise the ceiling price of airfare. However, he stopped short to detail the tariff reduction.

“I’ve mandated by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs to conduct more studies on each detail required to lower airlines tariff,” said Budi Karya on Tuesday, May 7.

Budi planned to gather all stakeholders to talk on the legal basis to drop airlines tariff.

The government planned to further evaluate the airfare ceiling price as it caused high-cost economy in a bid to adjust the tariffs nearing the 2019 Eid homecoming.

“We orders [the ministry] to review the ceiling price for airlines ticket,” said the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Darmin Nasution on Monday, May 6.

According to Darmin, Transportation Ministry targeted to complete the evaluation within a week. He further said SOE Ministry will abide by the prevailing regulation.

Meanwhile, SOE Ministry Rini Soemarno said she would follow and demand air carriers such as Garuda Indonesia to follow the regulation.
