Anies Baswedan Asks PD Pasar Jaya to Raise Stocks during Ramadan

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan inspected prices of food commodity in Pasar Jaya, Kramat Jati, East Jakarta today morning, May 7. During the sudden inspection, Anies also monitored available stocks of all commodities for Ramadan.
Anies first checked the stock of garlic that was amounted to 10 tons or one container sold. The price was set at Rp600,000 per 20 kilograms. Viewed from the label, the good was imported from China.
“It [the garlic] will run out by today afternoon. Jakarta has a high demand on garlic,” said PD Pasar Jaya director Arief Nasrudin while accompanying Anies in the market.

Entering the fasting month, prices of garlic in several city’s areas increased due to a shortage in stock.
In Kramat Jati Main Market, garlic was set at Rp80,000 - Rp100,000 per kilogram that was increased from initially Rp20,000 - Rp30,000 per kilogram before Ramadan.
The Governor then monitored the rice stock, cooking oil, and milk. Demands on those goods increasingly jumped during Ramadan. Therefore, he ordered his staffers to secure 10 to 20 percent more stocks of food commodity than that of in common days.
