Minister Asks Bali to Open Home Care for Elderly

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bali is one of Indonesia’s favorite destinations for both local and foreign tourists. Each year, over six million tourists visit the resort island to enjoy its nature and culture. Some of them are elderly people.

Not a few senior citizens consider the paradise island as their second home because of the peaceful ambiance and warm, tropical climate. It is an enticing destination to avoid cold season in their origin countries.

Following a high enthusiasm of elder people visiting the island, Health Minister Nila Moeloek suggested the opening of senior home care. The minister voiced her recommendation during a meeting with Deputy Governor Tjok Oka Artha Ardhana Sukawati and Denpasar Mayor Ida Bagus Rai Dharmawijaya Mantra in Denpasar, Wednesday, April 24.

“There are many many elderlies in the world and they face cold season during which they choose to stay here as their second home,” said Nila.

During their visit, Nila added, those senior people highly needed health service as they possibly deal with wellness issue in their old age. Therefore, the minister expected the recreational island to provide health service to cater to them having a peaceful journey.

“So they can enjoy the great landscape as well as maintain their health,” Nila underlined.

Bali has become homes for elderly people who commonly seen carrying out light activities such as painting and walking.
