TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta provincial administration is striving to designate a place for street vendors or PKL that opened their stalls along the roadside of Jalan Jenderal Sudirman.

The city's Micro, Small, Medium Enterprise (MSME) Agency head, Adi Adiantara, said his side was still persuading building owners along the protocol road to accommodate those traders in their canteens.

Moreover, according to Adi, demands that attracted PKL to occupy the street came from workers in the area. “We are ready to prepare them [PKL] if they [buildings] have a certain standard to meet,” he said on Wednesday, April 24.

For the past two weeks, the roadside of Jalan Sudirman located before the Education and Culture Ministry and Ratu Plaza was occupied by street vendors. When Tempo visited the area on Tuesday, many street food vendors open their stalls. The Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) then swept the location, and no trader was on the sight in a day after.

According to Adi, several stakeholders including the capital's Bina Marga Agency were still canvassing the plan. “There are many things to be concerned, such as the food hygiene, cleanliness, and the right place,” he outlined.

Adi said his agency planned to build food stalls near MRT station or within the distance of 500 meters. In addition, training on maintaining the quality standard was required for street vendors.
