TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The number of the opposition party at the capital city under the administration of Anies Baswedan is predicted to increase following the 2019 legislative election. This is referred to quick counts on the votes and seats of political parties in Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD).

Indonesia Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) faction head, Gembong Warsono, claimed the opposition party would remain solid, despite they might lose Hanura Party as it did not pass the threshold. However, the position would be replaced by Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI).

Based on the quick count results, PSI chaired by Grace Natalie secured the fourth place in the Jakarta legislative election. The party that was supported Basuki Tjahaja Purnama alias Ahok as Jakarta governor in the previous provincial administration declared to be the opposition of Anies Baswedan.

“We (the opposition) are still the same,” said Gembong as quoted from Koran Tempo edition Monday, April 22. “With a lower or higher number of the seats, parties as supervisors and critics of the provincial administration remains solid.”
