TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri met with a group of journalists after casting her vote at the Kebagusan polling station (TPS) today.

She took the opportunity to comment on groups of people that have openly threatened on mobilizing masses, dubbed “people power," if a certain presidential candidate loses the presidential election.

Megawati recalled her past political career where she lost the 2009 presidential election and asserts that she was able to accept her loss which was the public’s decision at the time.

“I once entered a presidential election. When I lost I didn’t cause an uproar and just invited people to have a meal together,” said Megawati at her house in the Kebagusan area in South Jakarta today.

The former president asked every Indonesian to accept the results at the end of the day. “Whatever the results may be, we should be joyous about it,” she reminded.

PDIP secretary general Hasto Kristiyanto added that Megawati`s statement is a direct warning to the people who openly threatened to use the Indonesian people to rebel against the government in a “people power” movement.

The “people power” movement was echoed by National Mandate Party (PAN) senior politician Amien Rais during the past few weeks as an answer to the possibility of finding the 2019 General Elections to be faulty.
