TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Brenton Harrison Tarrant, an Australian man accused of murdering 50 people in two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, has been charged with 50 counts of murder and 39 counts of a murder attempt.

The police announced the new indictment against Tarrant (28), who is scheduled to attend a high court in Christchurch on Friday.

Tarrant was arrested on March 15 for his role in massacring mosque-goers in Christchurch during the Friday prayer. He was brought to trial the next day and charged with one count of murder as the initial process.

The police said that all the dead and wounded victims would be taken into consideration in preparing the indictment.

The judge who leads the trials said that the next hearing would be to determine the defendant's legal representative. Earlier, Tarrant had said that he will be representing himself.
