TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta provincial government to participate in the Earth Hour campaign that falls on today by turning off the lights at seven monuments in the city.

"This is [done] as a symbol of Jakarta supporting the Earth Hour 2019 on March 30," said the assistant of Jakarta's environmental deputy governor Yuli Hartono on Wednesday, March 27.

The seven monuments include General Sudirman Monument, Youth Monument (Patung Pemuda Membangun), Selamat Datang Monument and Bundaran HI fountain, National Monument, City Hall (field and building), Arjuna Wiwaha Monument and fountain, West Irian Liberation Monument and probably Farmer's Monument (Tugu Tani).

However, Yuli said his side did not issue flyers or brochures to district offices informing to turn off the lights for one hour as they did in previous years. "We don't do that this year since it coincidences with the presidential debate, so we only symbolically [participate in the event]," he said.

During the Earth Hour, monuments or home electricity would be turned off for an hour from 20:30 until 21:30, throughout the globe.

Meanwhile, the 2019 Earth Hour in Jakarta will be centered at Lapangan Banteng by conducting several attractions, such as forming a 60+ choreography, flash mob, and theatrical drama.
