TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Consumer’s Foundation (YLKI) chairman Tulus Abadi noted five criticism after joining the public trial run of MRT Jakarta. The newly-built train, Tulus said, does not have sufficient signs for passengers.

Tulus opined that signs in the train station and cabin were required to provide information and educate passengers. “[MRT Jakarta] doesn’t have signs in the train cabin as that of in Jabodetabek commuter line or KRL,” said Tulus in a statement, Wednesday, March 20.

According to Tulus, PT Mass Rapid Transit overlooked the 'Do Not Lean on Door' and 'Do Not Eat and Drink on Board' signs in the train cars and platforms.

The train, which is named Ratangga, has no train announcement either in the form of voice or written. “This is essential for passengers, moreover when the train is fully packed,” he added.

The fourth criticism is the absence of the train route and map, as well as the route of MRT feeders in each station. “This is needed so consumers will not be confused on how they should continue their trip,” Tulus explained.

He further demanded MRT Jakarta immediately provide those signs considering educative information is needed to encourage changes in MRT passengers behaviors.

The YLKI also noted that MRT Jakarta has no luggage racks in the train cabin, as referred to Jabodetabek commuter line and Japanese MRT. The MRT Jakarta spokesman claimed the luggage rack was set as commercial purposes.

“Advertisement space is allowed to be set, but do not overlook the consumers’ right and convenience. YLKI suggests [MRT Jakarta] provide available luggage rack, even if it isn’t set fully,” Tulus added.

However, the YLKI appreciated MRT Jakarta for its facilities in stations and train cars, including the train’s stable speed, mild sound during operations, and automatic platform edge doors.
