Tariff Issue Sees Online Taxi Drivers Hint on Another Protest

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The online motorcycle-taxi drivers association joined in the Gabungan Transportasi Roda Dua Indonesia (Garda) announced that it will hold a national consolidation on the service’s tariff that has yet been set by the Transportation Ministry.

Garda presidium Igun Wicaksono said association representatives on Tuesday met with the Transportation Ministry to voice their requests regarding the online taxi tariff.

“As online-taxi drivers, we urged for a minimum tariff of Rp2,400/kilometer without any additional fees and a 4-kilometer maximum flag fall of Rp12,000,” said Igun.

He hinted of possibly another major rally in protest of the tariff from online taxi drivers across Indonesia, especially if the driver’s inputs are not taken into consideration by the government.

The Transportation Ministry (Kemenhub) is currently considering to set a tariff based on suggestions offered by ride-hailing app applicators and drivers alike. Both are still unable to find a middle ground.
