TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister of Political, Law, and Security Affairs Wiranto denied rumors of an impending major riot before and after the 2019 presidential election.

“I maintain that there will be no major riots or people power movements,” said Wiranto after leading the ministerial coordination meeting at the Ministry’s headquarters on Thursday, March 14.

He further claimed that the current escalation and intelligence reports suggest that such fear was not backed by the facts, and guaranteed that the Indonesian government would try its utmost to maintain the safety and security of the democratic election.

The closed meeting discussed the electoral preparation from the government, organizers, and security personnel in the wake of the general election (Pemilu). He called for the public to not worry about any potential physical threats related to the election.
