TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani has prepared several strategies to boost tax revenue. The plans include expanding the tax base and improving the tax payment system.

“We will expand the tax base, and as we have done, [we will] synergize with companies,” said Sri Mulyani Wednesday, March 13, at the Jakarta Taxation Supervisory Committee (KPP).

Sri Mulyani explained that the ministry would ease individual taxpayers to carry out their duty through an online system, namely e-filing and e-billing. Therefore, she added, tax payment could be done in any ATM machine.

“[Taxpayers] should not have to visit a tax office because Tax Directorate General further expand and improve the technology system so taxpayers will not feel burden [to pay tax],” she said.

Aside from the plans, the Finance Ministry would establish a tax education from an early age in schools in tandem with the Education and Culture Ministry. The minister added that her side also partnered with Research and Technology and Higher Education Ministry.

Sri Mulyani continued to say that taxpayers played a significant role in supporting Indonesia’s economic growth. Hence, a synergy between the government and the business world is required to boost the country’s economy.
