TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Jusuf Kalla reminded Boeing to prove the safety of the aircraft they produced. His statement came in the aftermath of Ethiopian Airlines' Boeing 737 Max 8 crash last Sunday.

According to Kalla, the Indonesian government is temporarily banning all Boeing 737 Max 8 jets from flying as a security measure. The government does not want similar accidents to happen to national airlines.

The vice president understands that the grounding of the aircraft will affect the aviation industry. But said that it was a necessary cautious policy.

"If anything bad happens, it's over," he said at the State Palace in Jakarta, Tuesday, March 12.

Ethiopian Airlines' Boeing 737 8 Max bound for Nairobi lost contact minutes after leaving Addis Ababa on Sunday, March 10. The plane later crashed, killing all 157 people on board.

The incident is strikingly similar to what happened to Lion Air's flight using the same type of jet October last year. To date, authorities are still investigating the cause of the crashed that took the lives of 189 people.
