Flood, Landslide in NTT Killed Four

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Four people reportedly died in flood and landslide that hit West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). Other four people are also reportedly missing, while 743 people have been evacuated.

"As many as 743 people from three villages evacuate to West Manggarai Regency office," said the head of data and information center at the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, Saturday, March 9.

Flood and landslide hit six villages of Komodo and Mbiling Regencies, West Manggarai, on Thursday, March 7 at 7 am local time. The disasters occurred due to high-intensity rain.

Due to the flood, three houses are severely damaged, one bridge is broken, and three lanes of Ruteng-Labuan Bajo road are totally damaged. In addition, several vehicles and kiosks are also buried by the landslides.

Sutopo said the flood has now receded but the agency is still collecting data and conducting evacuation for the victims. A joint team is also looking for four missing people buried by the landslides.
