VP Jusuf Kalla Clarifies Prabowo`s State Wealth Leak Comment

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - In response to yet another of Prabowo Subianto’s wealth leakage comment, Vice President Jusuf Kalla admits that Indonesian wealth once ‘leaked’ overseas in the past, but argues that it was handled by the government by introducing a tax amnesty program.
“The leak was not across all sections. There were export income that did not entirely get back to Indonesia or moving assets and funds overseas,” said VP Jusuf Kalla at the vice presidential office on Tuesday.
Jusuf Kalla said the government understands the country’s lack of restrictive law and continues to revise necessary laws. However, he maintained that it would need more time.
“It did in fact happen. That is why there was the tax amnesty program to attract Indonesia’s wealth back to domestic soil,” said VP Jusuf Kalla.
The issue of Indonesian foreign wealth leaking overseas was mentioned numerous times by Prabowo Subianto in his campaigns. He promised to look into evidence of the Rp11 thousand trillion leaks if he gets elected in the upcoming presidential election.
