TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Police Chief Insp. Gen. Gatot Eddy Pramono said that a total of 25,700 officers would be deployed to guard the election day on April 17, 2019, when the presidential and legislative election would take place simultaneously.

The officers, Gatot added, would be tasked to numbers of Jakarta areas. “Either assigned as security officers in voting stations (TPS) or patrol officers among others,” said Gatot Monday, March 4, when visiting Tempo office in Palmerah, Jakarta.

Based on the General Election Commission (KPU), there are at least 7.7 million Jakartans listed as eligible voters for the 2019 election. The number is collected from a total of 267 Jakarta’s sub-districts. The voting station in the capital city spread in 29,010 points.

Gatot continued to say that as many as 12,000 personnel of Indonesian Military (TNI) and more than 120,000 officers from Community Protection Agency (Linmas) would help the security effort during the election day.

“Jakarta administration, Public Order Agency, and other institution will also help us. We have established a synergy,” he said.

According to Gatot, public participation is required to maintain security and peace during the presidential and legislative election. The police, he said, had prepared strategies to anticipate potential dispute.

Gatot continued that the police had commenced the Mantap Brata Operation since the KPU declared presidential-vice presidential candidates for the election on September 20, 2018. The operation, which was held in all Indonesian police units and involved more than 300,000 joint personnel of TNI and National Police, would last for 397 days.
