TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Government through the Finance Ministry’s Decree sought import tax exempts for two main Palestinian commodities; dates and olive oil.
Trade Minister Enggartiasto Lukita said that the new decree reflects Indonesia’s commitment and political support for the people of Palestine.
“In front of the Vice President, we handed over the import duty tax-free technical regulation to the Palestinian Ambassador. We will follow this up with the preferential trade agreement (PTA),” said Enggar at the VP Office on Thursday, Feb. 28.
This practically frees the two commodities from going through any feasibility test and import duties. Minister Enggartiasto announced that the Indonesian people will be able to consume Palestinian dates and olive oil during the upcoming Ramadan and other products Palestine wishes to export to Indonesia.
Responding to this, the Palestinian Ambassador to Indonesia Zuhair Al Shun expressed his gratitude toward the Indonesian government and highly praised the Indonesian President and its people for the support.
