Garuda Indonesia Asked to Open More Routes in Wiriadinata Airport

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi asked state-owned airliner Garuda Indonesia open more flight routes from and to Wiriadinata Airport, Tasikmalaya.
“We hope there will be additional flight route in March. I have ordered Garuda to open one route because of market demand,” said the President while inaugurating Wiriadinata Airport, Tasikmalaya City, West Java Province, Wednesday, February 27.

Wiriadinata Airport started its commercial operation from previously utilized as Indonesian Military Air Base. The government expanded the airport by constructing the runway up to 1,600 meters and passenger terminal in a bid to boost tourism in Tasikmalaya and the vicinity area.
Jokowi granted a request made by West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil who wished an alternative route to the region from the capital city.
Accompanying President Jokowi during the airport inauguration ceremony were Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi, State Secretary Minister Pratikno, and West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil.
