TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) has selected 25 referees, 25 assistant referees, and 10 referee assessors for the 2019 President Cup which is slated to begin on March 2. They had earlier undergone training in Century Hotel for three days on February 25-27.

“People (referees, assistant referees, and referee assessors) chosen in this program are those who have good performance. They have good skill, and their integrity will be viewed and tested during the 2019 President Cup,” said PSSI referee committee member Purwanto.

According to Purwanto, before assigning the 50 participants, the association had previously analyzed 42 referees, 57 assistant referees, and 45 referee assessors.

PSSI, he added, is committed to further improve the performance of referees and its element. “President Cup will be a test for our referees. I hope they will make this an opportunity to assess their competency. So, referees must seriously take this task,” said Purwanto, who is a former national referee.

The 2019 President Cup will start on Saturday, March 2, 2019. The first match will be held in Si Jalak Harupat Stadium, Bandung, West Java, between the host club Persib and Bogor football club Tira Persikabo.
