TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The police's anti-soccer mafia task force named a former member of the Indonesian Soccer Association (PSSI) executive board, Hidayat, as the 16th suspect in an alleged match-fixing case involving soccer matches across multiple levels in the country.

“Based on the initial investigation on Friday, February 22, and after questioning 14 witnesses, we officially named [Hidayat] a former PSSI executive board as a suspect,” said National Police spokesman Brig. Gen. Dedi Prasetyo in South Jakarta today.

Hidayat was suspected of bribing the manager of Madura FC, Januar Herwanto, to lose a match against PSS Sleman in the Liga 2 2018.

Investigators explained that Januar was offered around Rp100 million. Presently, it is known that the latter team would be promoted to the higher league, the Liga 1, in the 2019 season.

“[Hidayat’s] role was massive in the matches, he also collaborated in controlling the scores,” said Dedi. Hidayat became PSSI’s executive committee member for 2016-2020 but resigned in December last year, saying he intended to distance himself from the match-fixing fiasco.
