TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Nearing the end of the operations at Grasberg Open Pit in Tembagapura, Mimika, Papua, PT Freeport Indonesia has started to send back its mining equipment to overseas mining locations namely in South and North America.

PT Freeport Indonesia spokesman Riza Pratama said that the company decided it would be less useful to keep equipment such as haul trucks in the Grasberg open pit since it has started it underground mining.

“I heard that the haul trucks being sent [to other locations]. Grasberg will expire soon. We are still in production but it will soon end to the final stages,” said Riza in Timika, Papua on Thursday, February 21.
