TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Like it or not, the digital era cannot be separated from the role of social media. Many see this platform as a mean to communicate, obtain information, or simply as a source of entertainment.

However, some cases show that social media addiction exists and can create harmful effects on its users, including affecting the users' mental health. Before you enter the addiction phase, here are three signs signaling that you should take a break from social media:

  1. Jealous of other people's success

The basic nature of social media is the platform to share anything through images or writing. However, uploading an image that may seem ordinary for you might be seen as pretentious and showing off.

Being agitated by simply looking at social media posts about other people's happiness or success might be a strong sign for you to take a break from social media.

  1. Oversharing activities without regard for privacy

Sharing what you consider special moments in social media is acceptable, however, posting a series of posts of every minute of your life in social media could mean that you should put your gadgets down and rethink what is necessary and what should not be posted online.

  1. Constantly comparing yourself to others

One of the direct effects of planting your face in social media all day long is that you will start to compare your life to others, which is certainly an unhealthy behavior for your mental health. Have self-confidence and trust that everyone has their own upside and downside.
