Glenn Fredly on the Much-Debated Draft Music Bill Timeline

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - In the midst of a heated debate on the draft music bill known as the RUU Permusikan, musician Glenn Fredly, acting as the Chairman of the Indonesia Music Conference (KAMI), said that the bill initially emerged in 2015.
“There was a hearing at the House of Representatives (DPR) with the music industry,” said Glenn Fredly in the discussion held at Cilandak Town Square today on Monday, as aired through Instagram by an account named ‘Koalisi Seni’.

After two years without any developments, Glenn said that he met with fellow musician Anang Hermansyah who was a musician-turned- Commission X House of Representatives member. It was then that Glen new a discussion took place regarding the RUU Permusikan.
Glenn recalled that Commission X back in April of 2017 held a hearing with people in the music industry comprising musicians up to industry practitioners, “They all gave input on anything related to music,” he said.
Anang officially handed over the academic text on the RUU Permusikan to Commission X leader which eventually became the commission’s official proposal. As of October 2018, the draft bill became one of the 55 laws prioritized in 2019 with no draft bill committee members yet to be formed.
