TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Transparency International Indonesia announced that the 2018 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) of Indonesia climbs seven ranks to 89th position out of 180 countries.

The research manager of Transparency International Indonesia, Wawan Sujatmiko, said that the CPI score of the country increased one point. “The score in 2018 is 38, from previously 37 points in 2016 and 2017,” said Wayan in a written statement, Tuesday, January 29.

Wayan explained the index is calculated based on nine indicators, namely World Economic Forum, International Country Risk Guide, Global Insight Country Risks Ratings, IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook, Bertelsmann Foundation Transform Index, Economist Intelligence Unit Country Ratings, PERC Asia Risk Guide, Varieties of Democracy Project, and World Justice Project.

Based on other watchdogs in 2018, Wayan mentioned, the index was increased. Global Insight reported a hike from 35 to 37 points and PERC Asia Risk Guide from 32 to 33 points. Meanwhile, IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook informed a declining point from 41 to 38, as well as Varieties of Democracy Project that revealed drop from 30 to 28 points.

Indonesia, he added, ranked the fourth among ASEAN states. The first position is perched by Singapore with 82 points, followed by Brunei Darussalam with 62 points, and Malaysia with 47 points.

He further demanded the government improve the integrity of public institutions, especially law enforcement agency such as Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), National Police, and prosecutor's office. Wayan also urged KPK to design a comprehensive map in a bid to prevent and prosecute corruption crimes.
