TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Health Agency head Widyastuti suggested that each family in the capital city should have a cadre of jumantik or mosquito larvae controllers to anticipate mosquito nest of Aedes aegypti which spread the dengue fever (DBD).

“We call for a jumantik cadre in each home,” said Widyastuti in her office, Central Jakarta, Monday, January 28.

The cadre is also expected to remind each member of the family to remain alert on sudden fever. The first aid for dengue fever is drinking more water and taking medicine.

According to Widyastuti, for the last three years, the dengue fever hit children at the age of 7 to 12 years old, while this year, the illness mostly strike 14 to 15-year-old children.

“That means, students in elementary and junior high school are the population with a high risk of the disease,” she underlined.

The Jakarta administration has declared a dengue fever (DBD) alert in light of the increased number of dengue cases in the capital. There were 613 cases of DBD up to January 27. Within four days, the number of patients increased to 243 cases from previously 370 cases per January 23.
