TEMPO.CO , Jakarta - Public relation head at The Law and Human Rights Ministry’s correction facilities directorate general, Ade Kusmanto confirmed the release date of former Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama or Ahok who was jailed on May 9, 2017.
“[His release] will be on January 24, 2019,” said Ade when Tempo reached him by phone today.
Last year, Ahok was granted a Christmas remission and a general prison remission that effectively reduces his jail sentence from the original 2-years jail time.
The latest news coming from Ahok through his Instagram account @basukibtp that posted an image of a handwritten message written by Ahok himself aimed at his followers. He requested that they not greet him once he steps out of prison. He also publically apologized for his past mistakes.
