TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts Jakarta and its vicinity will experience strong winds up to 45 kilometers-per-hour during New Year’s Eve.

“The strong winds will potentially strike areas in Banten, Jakarta, West Java, and areas in its vicinity,” said Agie Wandala Putra, Head of BMKG weather prediction on Sunday, December 30.

A previous report by the agency’s meteorology deputy Mulyono R. Prabowo stated that atmospheric observations showed that Indonesian regions are still loomed by cold wind masses from Asia.

The low-pressure area around the Philippines and the South China Sea caused the cold air mass to be concentrated in Asia’s northern region. Meanwhile in Australia, a significantly low-pressure mass will make both weather anomalies meet in Indonesia’s southern area.

BMKG calls for Jakarta residents to keep an eye on potential hydrometeorology disasters such as flooding, flash floods, landslides, and extreme wind speeds in the next couple of days. The city’s temperature is expected to be around 24-32 degree Celsius with a 70-90 percent humidity level.
