TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bank Indonesia (BI) guarantees it has met public needs for cash for Christmas and New Year holidays.

BI Governor Perry Warjiyo said based on the central bank's observation in its headquarters and 46 representative offices throughout Indonesia cash withdrawal as of today, December 28, had reached Rp90 trillion.

“As we have said, the estimated needs for cash are around Rp101.1 trillion, and yesterday [Dec 27] they reached Rp85 trillion. Perhaps, if added to the figure today, it will be over Rp90 trillion,” Perry told reporters in the BI office complex, Friday, December 28.

BI has prepared Rp101.1 trillion for December 2018 to anticipate the higher needs for cash withdrawal during Christmas and New Year holidays.

The figure climbed by 10.3 percent compared to that of the same period last year, which was Rp93.7 trillion.

Perry then delivered Christmas and New Year greetings to all Indonesians and hoped for better state economy next year. “Merry Christmas for those who celebrate it, and I invite all parties to strengthen the synergy and optimism for a better economy in 2019 and years to come.”
