TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice presidential candidate Sandiaga Uno casually responded to questions upon his and presidential hopeful Prabowo Subianto’s preparation in facing the inaugural 2019 Presidential Election debate set on January 17, 2019. The event will take on human rights (HAM) issues.

HAM had been an issue looming over Prabowo, however, Sandiaga explained that out of five Indonesian presidents elected post-reform era, none succeeded to incriminate Prabowo Subianto in any of the country’s human rights violations.

“Prabowo’s involvement has proven to be non-existent, so this should not pose a problem for us,” said Sandiaga Uno at the Bulungan Tennis Court in South Jakarta today.

Prabowo had always been accused by a number of people of being a human rights violator. His involvement in the kidnapping of 1998 pro reformation activists is the most heard accusation since he was the General Commander of the Special Army Forces (Kopassus) that allegedly is responsible for the number of missing activists.

Moreover, Sandiaga Uno clearly stated that he will let that issue be discussed in its entirety and is prepared to denounce any allegation that connects Prabowo to the country’s human rights violations and maintains that it has become a political tool to discredit Prabowo Subianto.
