Sunda Strait Tsunami Refugees in Need of Blankets, Matrasses

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) is focusing its efforts on restoring areas in South Lampung that was affected by the Sunda Strait tsunami. The natural disaster hit the area on Saturday, December 22, 2018.

“The local administration is currently collecting data and verifying the damaged structures in the area to accelerate our restoration efforts,” said Head of BNPB retired Admiral Willem Rampangilei in South Lampung on Thursday, December 27.

During the emergency response period from December 23 to 27, the government's search effort and evacuation of the survivors continue to expand within areas in Banten and Lampung.

As of refugee accommodation, Willem said that there is still an abundant supply of clothes, food, and medicine. However, he said that the refugees are in urgent need for blankets and matrasses.

The Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI), National Police (Polri), National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), BNPB, and volunteers have joined forces to maximize the current emergency response period following the Sunda Strait tsunami.
