TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Caller ID service Truecaller in its latest ‘Truecaller insight special report’ ranks Indonesia as the first most spammed country in Southeast Asia with spam calls.

Based on the report Tempo received on Tuesday, December 18, Indonesia ranks 16th out of 20 countries globally for countries with the highest number of spams. This translates to the fact that 15 percent of the entire phone calls received by Truecaller users are spam calls.

In the regional level, Indonesia is the highest spam call receiver in Southeast Asia with a monthly average of 9.9 spam calls followed by Malaysia with 6 average spam calls each month.

With the 161 percent growth of spam calls from the beginning of 2018, Truecaller found that its app users had also increased to 1.3 million users in Indonesia.

Indonesia’s top spammers include phone calls linked to the financial service sector with 81 percent of received calls containing annoying offers followed by calls from insurance companies. Truecaller claims that it managed to block and identify a staggering 19 million spam calls.
