TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Global security company Kaspersky's latest data revealed almost 43 million local attacks targeted businesses in Southeast Asia last year. These statistics were generated by Kaspersky Security solutions, which scan files on the hard disk as they are created or accessed, as well as the results of scanning removable media.
"Kaspersky's business solutions blocked a total of 42,700,000 local infections in the period from January to December last year," said Adrian Hia, managing director for Asia Pacific at Kaspersky, in a statement released on Monday, April 1.
Kaspersky said that although global threats have increased over the past year - both for individuals and businesses - all countries in Southeast Asia aside from Singapore have seen an insignificant decline in the number of local threats detected and blocked on corporate devices using Kaspersky Lab's business solutions.
Singapore saw a 67 percent year-over-year increase, from 300,000 local incidents in 2022 to 500,000 last year.
Overall, businesses in Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand experienced the most threats last year. Vietnam recorded 17.1 million threats, Indonesia 16.4 million threats, and Thailand 4.7 million.
"Southeast Asia has the potential to become a major global manufacturing hub. The region has also recorded consistent and stable digital economic growth over the years. To continue this achievement, organizations, whether operating IT or OT systems, need to strengthen their cyber defenses against sophisticated attacks using old techniques and tactics," said Adrian Hia.
According to Hia, protection against local attacks requires not only a security solution that can deal with infected objects, but also a firewall, anti-rootkit functionality, and control over removable devices.
