TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) reportedly handled 178 investigations on corruption and 128 prosecutions throughout the year, where 28 of those were through the agency's sting operations.
“Among the cases that were handled, 28 cases came from sting operations,” said KPK deputy Saut Situmorong today, Dec. 19, during the agency’s 2018 performance report.
According to Saut, the types of corruption that they often encounter are bribery cases with 152 cases, followed by public procurement corruption with 17 cases, and six cases of money laundering.

Saut’s data also revealed 91 cases implicating members of regional and central legislative, 50 cases involved the private industry, 28 corruption cases by 29 active regional administrative leaders, and two former regional heads.
The statistic also revealed an increase in sting operation cases in 2018 compared to the previous year; “This is the most we have done in the history of KPK,” said Saut Situmorong.
KPK Chairman Agus Rahardjo said that the data was compiled up to December 19, 2018, and suggests that there is a possibility that the sting operations will continue to increase before year’s end.
