TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The majority of Tempo readers believe that the terror act by the separatist group in Papua must not stop the government's infrastructure project in the province.

A group of armed men led by Egianus Kogoya captured 28 workers of construction company Istaka Karya on Sunday, December 2. Nineteen workers were killed. The employees were working on a bridge at the construction site in Yigi District.

A total of 1,159 Tempo.co joined a survey about the incident, which lasted from December 10 to 17.

Eighty two percent of the respondents or 954 readers said that the project must be continued, and the government shouldn’t allow an act of terror to halt the progress of development. Only 192 respondents (17%) said that it would be wise to cease the construction. Meanwhile, 13 people (1%) claimed were undecided.

The government is working on numerous infrastructure projects in Papua, including the 4,600-kilometer Trans Papua road.

Aloysius Kiik Ro, the SOE Ministry's deputy or restructuration business development, said the project will continue under enhanced security and protection as instructed by the president and the Public Works and Housing Ministry.

"We have made a deal with the TNI Commander and the Chief of Police to guard and secure the area," Aloysius said last week.
