TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Fisheries and Maritime Affairs Minister Susi Pudjiastuti`s call for the Indonesian society to no longer use plastic bags was responded positively by Indonesian netizens with her recent Twitter post.

Related to the ban, Minister Susi uploaded a screenshot of her discussion with an engineer named David from Kenya through her Twitter account, @susipudjiastuti, which eventually went viral attracting over 600 comments and thousands of retweets and likes.

In the discussion, David talked about the plastic bag ban that was effective in Kenya since last year. This forced every store and supermarkets have now utilized reusable shopping bags. He said that bringing plastic bags to Kenya is considered illegal.

David further gave his support to Minister Susi Pudjiastuti upon implementing the plastic bag ban despite being faced by a certain backlash from businesses; "I know most businessmen will be against it but by the end of it you will win the Nobel peace prize,” said David in the conversation with Susi.

Minister Susi Pudjiastuti had been actively campaigning against the use of plastic bags for the past several months. She personally sees plastic waste problems as an endemic and systemic problem that needs to be solved through regulations and socialization.
