TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A climate-conscious festival dubbed IKLIM Fest is set to be held in Ubud Monkey Forest, Bali, on Saturday, November 4, 2023. Thirteen renowned Indonesian musicians will enliven the festival, with the main agenda being the release of their Sonic/Panic compilation album centered around the Earth and the climate crisis.
Musicians Endah N Rhesa, Navicula, Tony Q Rastafara, Tuantigabelas, Iksan Skuter, FSTVLST, Made Mawut, Nova Filastine, Guritan Kabudul, Kai Mata, Rhythm Rebels, and Prabumi are scheduled to perform their latest songs on the album by Alarm Records.
Movement Against Plastic Waste at Music Festival
The festival, a collaboration between Yowana Padangtegal, Dietplastik Indonesia, and other parties, will first implement the "Reuse Protocol" to reduce the waste usually generated during music festivals.
Tiza Mara, the executive director of Dietplastik Indonesia, said that preventing plastic waste could be done anywhere, including during music festivals. The NGO would launch and conduct the first implementation of the Reuse Protocol at IKLIM Fest.
“All food and drinks will be served using reusable containers and utensils from the reuse service providers collaborating with food and beverage vendors. We will calculate how much single-use plastic prevention has been achieved. If this is implemented with good standards, this reuse system can also play a role in reducing greenhouse gases (GHG) by up to 80 percent,” Tiza said as quoted from a press release received by Tempo.
Aside from musical performances, the festival will offer a wide range of activities involving local people and communities in Ubud, including a pop-up skatepark by Bluebear Skatepark, yoga, talk shows, workshops, and community bazaars.
IKLIM Fest Uses Solar Power Plants
In addition to reducing plastic waste, IKLIM Fest will also utilize renewable energy, solar power, as one of its power sources for the music stages.
“The sound and stage lighting will be partially powered by solar energy in order to reduce the carbon emissions resulting from this event,” Gede Robi of the Navicula Band said.
IKLIM Fest will also distribute free tree seedlings to visitors as an effort to offset the carbon emissions produced by this music festival.
