TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned airport operator company PT Angkasa Pura is expanding its business by taking part in airport management in Southeast Asian countries. One of the upcoming development is the management of Clark Airport in Angeles City, Philippines. The city is located some 90 kilometers Northwest of Manilla.

"We are taking part in a tender, the results will be announced before Christmas," said Angkasa Pura II Director Awaluddin on Saturday, December 15, 2018.

In the future, Awaluddin said that Angkasa Pura II will be involved in a consortium of other airport operator companies. The consortium will include Philippine private companies and the airline group AirAsia.

Angkasa Pura II will have a 35 percent share ownership and is obliged to deposit IDR 350 billion. Meanwhile, investments of the consortium in Clark airport are capped at a maximum of 40 percent because regulations in the Philippine mandate 60 percent domestic investment.

In addition to the Philippines, Angkasa Pura II is also getting ready to operate one of the airports in Thailand. "A tender is currently open, we are getting ready," Awaluddin said. However, he refused to mention the name of the Thailand airport currently targeted by Angkasa Pura II.

Winning the tender in the Philippine will be Angkasa Pura’s first ever expansion to the international market. Awaluddin asserted that state-owned companies must become agents of change while at the same time extend to foreign market.
