Jakarta Gives Jonatan Christie Rp300mn Bonus and a Job Offer

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakartan athlete Jonatan Christie, a champion in men’s single badminton at 2018 Asian Games, will receive a bonus from Jakarta administration, in addition to prize from the Youth and Sports Ministry.
Jakarta Sports and Youth Agency head Ratiyono said Jonatan Christie, commonly called Jojo, would draw Rp300 million. “Yes, from the city administration. [The bonus] from the ministry is Rp1.5billion, his sponsor may also grant [prize],” said Ratiyono today, August 29.
Jojo brought Indonesia a gold medal after defeating Taiwanese athlete Chou Tien Chen in the final with a score of 21-18, 20-22, and 21-15 at Istora Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday, August 28.
Other than the prize money, the Jakarta city administration also offered Jojo a civil servant job. As of date, as many as nine Jakartan athletes secured gold medals at Asian Games that would last on September 2, 2018.
The prizes distribution is regulated through Gubernatorial Decree No. 1203 of 2018, stipulating Jakartan athlete who wins a medal will be awarded prize money. At the Asian Games, the gold medalist will receive Rp300 million, silver medalist Rp150 million, and bronze medalist Rp90 million.
