TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The head of Jakarta Transportation Agency Andri Yansyah appealed to the operator of the online motorcycle taxi or online ojek to shut down the application in certain areas. The demand was based on many findings that reported acts of traffic violence conducted by the drivers.
“They cause traffic congestion,” said Andri to Tempo today, July 7.
Andri explained in some areas with a prohibition sign, the operator must turn down the application and that the driver would not get signals. “So they cannot carelessly pick up a passenger,” he said.

According to Andri, many online ojek drivers parked in the street deliberately and disturbed the traffic which resulted in congestion. “For example, roads around railway stations which congested due to careless parking that is done by the online ojek driver.”
He mentioned the operator has responsibilities to educate the drivers. “It’s a lesson for online ojek to not park and increase traffic load,” he said.
Andir further suggested the operator provide shelters for online ojek to pick up and drop off the passenger. Even more, the 2018 Asian Games will be held in Jakarta next month. “We should manage it to prevent disordered traffic. I’ve demanded spots for online ojek as their place to park or gather so they will not disrupt the traffic,” he underlined.
