TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Education and Culture Minister Muhadjir Effendy planned to promote 100,000 honorary teachers to be civil servants this year.
“We’ve suggested 100,000 teachers for this year. Next year, we’ll review them,” said Muhadjir today at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta.
In a recent joint meeting with several ministries and House lawmakers, Muhadjir explained that state schools presently required 988,133 teachers, and teachers at state schools must be civil servants.
From the data, the number of non-civil servant teachers reached 735,825 persons.

However, the data would be re-calculated and synchronized with the data at the Ministry of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform (PAN-RB). “It should be re-validated, and compared to the PAN-RB ministry's,” he added.
Muhadjir said his ministry also planned to carry out the programs of multi-skills and multi-subjects in a bid to employ civil servant teachers more efficiently. Teachers at junior and senior high schools as well as vocational schools, for example, should master at least two subjects.
