Jakarta on High Alert 1, Police Service Stays Open

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The public service in every Jakarta Police stations remain open despite the Police Chief Insp. Gen. Idham Azis has instructed that Jakarta is on high alert status (Alert 1).

"Yes, [the service] runs in normal," said Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Raden Prabowo Argo Yuwono as confirmed by Tempo on Monday, May 14. Based on Tempo observation, the building entrance of One Stop Service of Jakarta Police is tightly secured by three officers carrying long-barreled firearms.

In the One-Stop Service building, public services such as Integrated Police Service Center (SPKT), Vehicle Document Registration Center (Samsat) and command center as well as police record (SKCK) and other licenses are available. Samsat service remains open at 08:00-15:00 local times while SPKT opens for 24 hours.

Yesterday, Idham Azis issued a high alert status for Jakarta and instructed all of the police officers in Jakarta to be at high alert following the suicide bombings in Surabaya. The security in several public places is tightened including shopping centers, offices, and worship places.

"Jakarta Police Chief declares a high alert status to all his staff up to Pospol (Police Station) level, so every police stations are guarded by armed officers and that aims to increase police awareness especially to people who enter the police station," Argo added.
