Grab App Provides Emergency Feature

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The online-based ride-hailing company Grab Indonesia said it has developed a new feature as to help the passenger in an emergency situation.

Grab Indonesia public relation head Andre Sebastian said the feature will be officially launched next week. “However, the passenger is able to use it now,” he said to Tempo yesterday, adding that passenger can instantly connect with their relatives if they experience an emergency situation.

Earlier, West Jakarta Police urged every online-based transportation company to install a system of emergency code or SOS following many criminal cases involving the online taxi driver recently increased. The recent case was occurred on last Monday, April 23, where a driver and his two friends tried to rob and sexually assault a passenger SS in Tambora, West Jakarta. Police revealed the three suspect had injected crystal meth.

With the emergency feature, Andre pinned hope that the passenger will feel safer during the trip. The passenger can click the emergency button in the upper screen. The button will be displayed during the trip. Grab customer service center will send a message to the number that has been listed by the passenger.

“Passenger can add three to five contacts number to the emergency list,” Andre added.

Tempo has tried the feature yesterday. When we click the button, the number on the list received a message noting “The passenger clicks the emergency button. We suggest you call the passenger or the police now”. Along with message are the real-time route destination and the driver’s name.

Furthermore, Marketing Director Grab Indonesia Mediko Azwar explained the passenger can share the destination route to their friends or relatives by using Share My Ride feature in advance.
