Thousands of GoJek, Grab Driver Stage Protest for Equal Treatment

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Thousands of online motorcycle taxi (ojek) driver from GoJek and Grab held a rally in front of the Merdeka Palace today, March 27. The demonstrators plan to rally until 6:00 p.m. this evening.
They demanded to meet the Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi to ask for a legitimate law that would protect their existence. They also demand GoJek and Grab to treat its drivers as equal labor forces.

As a result of the rally, traffic jam formed from Jalan MH Thamrin up to Medan Merdeka Barat. The motorcycles belonging to the online motorcycle drivers parked along the road was also one of the causes of the traffic congestion.
This congestion forced passers-by to utilize the Transjakarta corridor 1 bus lane, which is normally barred for public use.
The protesters not just come from Jakarta greater area (Jabodetabek) but also from GoJek and Grab drivers from other regions.
