TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The latest installment of the infamous Star Wars saga is “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” that was officially released in theatres across Indonesia on December 13.
Passionate Star Wars fans have long waited for the eighth Star Wars installment since it would explain many unanswered questions fans had clinging in their heads about Rey’s personal life and the continuity of The Force Awakens’ last scene where Rey met with Luke Skywalker.
For regular science fiction film fans, here are the three key female characters in the Star Wars movies - excluding female characters from the novels – which might help viewers get into grips with the space opera movie that was created by filmmaker George Lucas.
1. Padme Amidala (Natalie Portman)
Padmé Amidala was a courageous, hopeful leader, who originally served as Queen and then Senator of Naboo and was quite savvy with the blaster. Despite her ideals and all she did for the cause of peace, her secret, forbidden marriage to Jedi Anakin Skywalker would prove to have dire consequences for the galaxy.
Padme, who is the mother of Leia and Luke, appeared in episode 1, 2, and 3.
2. Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher 1956-2016)
Princess Leia Organa was one of the Rebel Alliance’s greatest leaders according to starwars.com databank. She was fearless on the battlefield and dedicated to ending the tyranny of the Empire. Leia is the daughter of Padmé Amidala and Anakin Skywalker, sister of Luke Skywalker.
Leia appeared in Star Wars episode 4,5,6, and 7.
3. Rey (Daisey Ridley)
Rey was a scavenger in planet Jakku who was toughened by life on a harsh desert planet. When the fugitive droid BB-8 appeals to her for help, Rey finds herself drawn into a galaxy-spanning conflict. Despite dismissing herself as “no one,” her role in The Force Awakens proves otherwise.
Rey was first introduced in Episode 7 and the recent ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi.”
