TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Agriculture Service of Yogyakarta Special Region have asked the public to avoid using plastic bags or black plastic bags for wrapping meat. This is because the plastic bags can be associated with the contamination of harmful chemicals and it also cause diseases.
"Do not wrap meat with plastic bags or black plastic bags," said Head of Livestock Department of Agriculture (Distan) DIY, Sutarno.
Sutarno said black plastic is not safe because it is the result of recycling of various plastics with unhygienic processes. According to him, the most appropriate and safe wrap for the sacrificial meat or other food is clear or transparent plastic because it is not a product of recycling.
"So we recommend the community for the use of transparent plastics alone," he said.
In addition, Sutarno also hopes that the people who have come into contact with meat wrapped in black plastic were not exposed to flu or other infectious diseases.
"Because it is easy for meat to be contaminated with viruses around it, I hope the community is healthy," he said.
There are number of congenital diseases one needs to watch out for, including liver worms, anthrax, and other infectious diseases.
