Father, Son Arrested for Sexually Abusing Underaged Relative

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Police arrested a father and son who allegedly sexually abused an underaged child who is also their relative. The father BR (54) and son DD (22) are currently being detained by the police and will potentially be charged with a 15-year sentence.

Chief of Bekasi Metro Police, Comr. Hero Henrianto Bachtiar, said that BR and DD are officially named as suspects. They were arrested in their hideout in Cilincing, North Jakarta on Tuesday evening, March 21, 2017. “The suspects were arrested without any resistance,” Hero said on Wednesday.

According to Hero, the case was revealed after the victim IP (16) told her school teacher following the treatment she receives from her uncle and cousin. What surprising is, based on her confession, both BR and DD sexually have been abusing IP since she was still in primary school.

“The victim lived with her uncle because her parents who live in Bogor are poverty-stricken,” Hero said.

BR’s immoral behavior towards his own niece was first discovered by his son DD. However, instead of reporting his father to the police, DD chose to take advantage of the situation and participate in the crime. In order to keep IP silent, DD and BR always threaten the victim.

“Almost every night, the victim is forced to serve the suspect’s depraved sexual desire,” Hero explained.

Commissioner of the National Commission for Child Protection, Imaculata Umiyati, stated that both of the suspects deserve to be sentenced with castration. She views that not one of the suspects, who are also the victim's relative, thought about the victim’s future.

“Castration is appropriate [for the suspects] as the deterrent effect,” she said.
