TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State power company PLN projects its electricity sales volume to reach 216 Terawatt-hour (TWh) in December. The estimate is seven percent higher from last year's volume of 202 TWh, company official said.
PLN's Commerce Division chief Benny Marbun said on Wednesday, December 14, that 2-15's consumption growth came under pressure with sluggish industrial activities. Last year's consumption growth was the lowest in a decade.
This year, the business sector has been the biggest contributor to consumption growth with eight percent, while the industry sector posted a seven-percent growth.
Benny said that sales in the middle class industry segment were supported by promotional activities. PLN offers a 35-percent discount for additional consumption during 23.00-08.00. Another incentive is the tariff hike decline by 40% for 10 months, for which 242 subscribers are registered. Payments can be made through installments after the 10th month.
Despite the increase, Benny said this year's sales is below the targeted 226 TWh. One of the reasons, he said, is the lesser use of air conditioning units in December.
Next year, Benny projects power consumption to reach 230 TWh or growing by almost 10 percent.
