TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Police arrested Hatta Taliwang on Thursday, December 8, 2016, over an alleged plot to overthrow the government and treason.
National Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Martinus Sitompul said that the arrest was in line with National Police’s statement saying that there was another suspect in addition to 11 individuals arrested for the same allegation on Friday, December 2, 2016.
“This morning at around 1 a.m., we arrested a person, MH a.k.a. HT at an apartment in Bendungan Hilir, Central Jakarta,” Martin said at his office in South Jakarta on Thursday, December 8, 2016.
Hatta was charged under Article 28 paragraph 2 in conjunction with Article 45 of Law No. 11/2008 on Information and Electronic Transactions. According to Martin, Hatta was linked to Sri Bintang Pamungkas and other 10 individuals.
“He [Hatta] made posts containing statements that could cause conflicts related to ethnicity, religion, race and class (SARA),” martin explained.
Martin added that Hatta had been named as a suspect and would be interrogated in the next 24 hours. National Police’s investigators said that they were still waiting for examination results to determine whether Hatta would be detained or not.
Police seized evidence, namely a cellular phone, books, and several documents. Martin revealed that Police holds two strong evidence to name Hatta as a suspect.
