TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said that there are around 900 pilots in Indonesia who are not employed yet, adding that it poses a challenge for the country's aviation education.
"We have two challenges, namely global competition and the fact that there are 900 pilots in our country who are not employed yet," Budi said in Jakarta on Sunday.
According to the Minister, the solution to the problem is by improving the quality of pilots through training programs. Most of the pilots, Budi said, are not employed yet because they are considered still incompetent.
"If they are given competence and skills, they can be employed as pilots," Budi said.
Budi further said that the government will also limit the recritment of foreign pilots in order to provide greater opportunities for Indonesian pilots.
